The Uncorker of Ocean Bottles, who lives alone atop a hill, has a very important job.. He is tasked with opening any bottles found at sea and make sure that the messages inside them are delivered. He loves his job but he wishes that one day a letter in a bottle would be addressed to him. However, one day he opens a bottle with a party invitation- but there's no name! He spends all his time trying to identify the mystery recipient and ends up finding something even more special... We won't give away the ending of this charming story about friendship. I can't praise this book enough. You will find so many hidden themes to discuss with your students and again, the illustrations have us hooked! On a side note: Have students bring in bottles from home, remove the labels and write stories/messages in their bottles. A fun activity to go with this sweet story. While writing, have the kids focus on their audience, who might read this letter and what would be the purpose of writing it? Makes us excited just thinking about it :)
