I was so proud of the incredible work the children did this week working on their holiday ornaments. They carefully took time filling them with the numbers and math facts each of them have been working on this year. I hope all the kiddos have a wonderful break from school and enjoy having fun with family and friends. Happy Holidays and I look forward to more precious time with your kids in 2019!! Thank you for all YOU do.
'Always remember, we are all "math people". It is so important to keep this mindset as we support our kiddos' learning in school and help them see how skills can transfer into real life situations. If you've ever figured out how much a shirt cost from the 30% off rack, you are a math person. If you've ever estimated how much water you drank in a day, you are a math person.
If you've ever made any sort of budget of any kind, you are a math person. If you've ever calculated exactly what time you'd need to get out of bed to still get to work on time, you are a math person. Let's help our kids see they can be a math person too!
With all the new snow falling the kindergartners and I decided it was time to have a snowball fight! They worked very hard writing numbers on pieces of paper and then crumpled them up into snowballs. We began by tossing snowballs at each other first, of course! Then we worked on reading the numbers and finding them in the classroom to use at targets. The kids had a great time reading names of numbers with very BIG smiles on their faces!
We hope you are having fun playing in the snow too!
Over the past couple of weeks our kindergartners have been working on number recognition and number naming. Check out these hard workers swatting away at numbers as they practice with one another. Fly swatters can be used in so many ways for math and reading practice. Check out this Pinterest page filled with fun games and activities to do at home!
