A number bond is a mental picture of the relationship between a number and the parts that combine to make it. The concept of number bonds is very basic, an important foundation for understanding how numbers work. Number bonds are taught starting in kindergarten, all the way to the upper grades. Here are some fun activities to use when teaching number bonds. The kids also really enjoy playing with number bonds online. Have fun!!!

Wow! What an exciting start to the school year! The kids at AES dove right into the Eureka curriculum and amazing things are happening. I have spotted first graders making number bonds, second graders doing lasso dances (see newsletter at bottom), third graders skip counting, and fourth graders working with 6 digit numbers! As many of you know it is very important that children as able to explain their thinking when solving math equations because pattern recognition is one of the most fundamental part of mathematics. Well this sweet student did a superb job explaining why the answer was incorrect and was sure to tie in some wonderful teacher language while doing so!
